LESSON 1.7: Building Your Study Plan & Using This Course

MODULE 1: WELCOME & EXAM ORIENTATION

Most successful candidates prepare for 3 months minimum. Here is a recommended phased approach:

Months 3-2 Before Exam: Foundation Phase

  • Work through Modules 1-5 of this course (exam orientation, consultation models, all three domains)
  • Use 15-minute appointments in surgery, timing yourself to finish in 12 minutes
  • Start a study group (3 people ideal: doctor, patient, examiner/observer)
  • Revise clinical knowledge using NICE CKS for common conditions

Months 2-1 Before Exam: Intensive Phase

  • Work through Modules 6-8 (clinical topics, exam techniques, case walkthroughs)
  • Practice SCA cases 2-3 times per week with study group or SimsBuddy AI
  • Record and review your consultations - identify patterns and habits
  • Discuss difficult cases with your trainer/educational supervisor

Final 2-4 Weeks: Exam Readiness

  • Work through Modules 9-10 (mock exams, exam-day logistics)
  • Practice daily under timed conditions
  • Complete the Osler platform walkthrough and device check
  • Use the self-assessment checklist to confirm readiness

⭐ KEY POINT: Divide your revision time into three equal parts: (1) clinical knowledge, (2) consultation skills practice, (3) self-review and feedback. All three are essential.
